Joining the Liberal Party
Jess first joined the Liberal Party in 2019. In 2021, she nominated for the now defunct Division of North Sydney but her nomination was blocked.
Her first chance at preselection was in May 2023 for the casual Senate vacancy created by the passing of Major General Andrew James Molan, AO, DSC but was unsuccessful.
Five months later she nominated for the Division of North Sydney but was unsuccessful.
Three weeks later she stood for preselection for the casual Senate vacancy created by the retirement of Marise Payne but was unsuccessful.
Six months later, she nominated for a winnable position on the 2025 NSW Senate ticket for the Coalition. On her fourth preselection in less than a year, Jess was finally successful. She was placed on the second spot at the 2025 Federal Election and was declared elected to the Senate on the 30th of May 2025, just over six years after joining the Liberal Party.
